Experience
Being a new school board member is challenging. There is no way to be fully prepared for the enormity, complexity and especially now, the intensity of this job in your first year. I was blessed to have four veteran board members on the board when I started. The next three elections added new people one or two at a time. Now things are very different. Our last board had an unprecedented number of new members for a Forest Hills School Board, with just 14 years combined experience at the beginning of 2020 (10 years, 2, 2, 0, 0).
New members are essential to bring new ideas and vitality to the board. But a district as large and prestigious as ours needs veteran leadership, someone who has been there. I bring 12 years of experience tackling issues as they arise - finances, facilities, curriculum, human resources, state mandates, township/village/parks collaboration, legal issues and more. With my two most senior colleagues not running for re-election, that leaves just one one board member with 2 years experience left on the board. Next year will have three novices and could potentially have four. I humbly ask for your vote.
